Members of the iSafety Task Force

The iSafety Task Force is a grassroots organization dedicated to providing information on internet safety to community members in Central Illinois.

While we are a new organization, we have been working hard over the past year to bring education and awareness on internet safety to Central Illinois.

The safety of those using the internet is of utmost concern and importance to the members of the iSafety Task Force.

  • A recent survey showed that 87% of children ages 12 to 17 use the internet;
  • According to a 2006 Internet Crime Report, the State of Illinois ranks fifth among all states in the number of Internet crimes perpetrators and seventh in the number of Internet crime complainants living in the state;
  • Surveys have shown that one out of five children who use the Internet have received unwanted sexual solicitations from predators

On March 10. 2008, Project Oz, a Project Group from Leadership McLean County and many other community sponsors held a Parents Forum on Internet Intelligence. It was a night of education and awareness for parents on the potential dangers of young people being online. March 10, 2008 was also declared Internet Safety Awareness Day by the Mayor of the City of Bloomington and the Mayor of the Town of Normal. The Parents' Forum was a launching pad for the iSafety Task Force. The purpose of the iSafety Task Force is to provide more education to the community about internet safety. We will focus on keeping kids safe online, financial safety and training to all users of the world wide web.

The iSafety Task Force recognizes the significant dangers the internet poses for all users. We are committed to taking further steps to ensure that safe internet practices are implemented in our homes and in the greater community.
